Dr. Mann — Moving On After PhD

The dissertation defense is done, the last three files are uploaded, and commencement in Nashville is over . . .

I am not sure what it is supposed to feel like to be a newly minted Dr. Mann, but I think it just has not weighed on me be cause people are just starting to call me by that title.  The larger question is, I imagine, “What will I do next now that I am absurdly overqualified for the job I currently occupy and am yet working on branching out in both academe and consulting?”  Needless to say, I am on the market and may move along to another organization in the near future.  What to do?

So far, I have updated my online presence and have “upped” my visibility in the groups I follow.  I am certainly more active in my job search, but my sincere hope is that my unique blend of qualifications will be “discovered” by the more search savvy headhunters around the web.  Optimistic?  Yes, I think so.  I am fortunate in that my greatly unsatisfying job does pay well, so I am able to be somewhat selective in my opportunities.  If you, or someone you know, want someone on your team with my extensive qualifications, then drop me a line here or on my LinkedIn page.

Talk to you soon!
